Bargello

Today we had the second part of our Bargello class at the shop taught by Kathy Ryan. We got to snap these pictures of their progress towards the end. Love seeing these quilts come together with those melding colors!
It's cool that Candy and Ida chose very different colorways so we can see how these quilts work well in all different ways!

Thank you Candy for the fun photo op!
Can't wait to see these quilts finished!

Sampler Shuffle updates:

Thank you for all the engagement in the Sampler Shuffle!
Many of you have stopped in to the shop to get your fabric selections. Most of the gals at the shop are participating as well and we have been given a little head start in the program so that we could better answer your questions, here are some progress shots:
Deb's using Grunge Fabrics by Moda for her blocks. Shown here are blocks 1-3
Jody is using the fabric line "Prairie" for her quilt. Shown here is her block 2
Mandy is using Cotton and Steel fabrics for her blocks. Shown here is block 1
Mandy's Block 2- note fussy cutting- since it will be set on point the sloth in the center had to be cut as a diamond so he will appear right side up in the finished quilt!
A few things to note:
1. Deb has offered at 15% discount to anyone buying their supplies at the shop just let us know when you check out!
2. If you do not wish to to the striped effect achieved with the set in squares shown below but you still wish to set it on point the setting yardage adds up to 3.75 yards of one color.
3. There is a bin of 10" sampler shuffle cuts at the shop affordable priced if you want to purchase a few to supplement your chosen precut lines. Keep in mind most precuts don't have a lot of  "background" fabrics- tone on tones- so that may be what you need to supplement- check out your fabric and see. Do you have a good balance of light, medium and darks?
4. Check out our website for more information! We have posted the PDF for the setting instructions, flying geese border and half square triangle tutorial already to get you ready! Click HERE to go directly to the website.
5. You will see on the downloads for the blocks when you print it out there are two sets of instructions- one to keep and one to share! Get your friends shuffling too!
6. Please send us your pictures via Facebook and Instagram : #modasamplershuffle #quilterscrossing or send an email to quilterscrossing@att.net-- Or stop in the shop to show and tell!

***Moda has provided a few tips they suggest for this project***
Since the blocks are small:
- shorten your stitch length a little,
 -use a 70/10 or 80/12 topstitch needle,
-sew with  50 or 60 wt thread,
-use a "Scant" quarter inch on your seams
these tips and adjustments will yield a more accurate block and nicer finished project!

Sampler Shuffle

Many of us were drawn into quilting by patchwork. Those charming prints and scrappy quilts appeal to many of us. Some consider patchwork quilting the true American art. All those blocks with quirky or historically relevant names were often published in newspapers and magazines for quilters to collect and make. The patterns were clipped and saved carefully with their templates, often these were cherished and handed down mother to daughter.

Moda fabrics wants to celebrate this quilting tradition so they have created a new project called the Sampler Shuffle. This is a free program they invite independent quilt shops and their customers to participate in. Beginning on Friday November 6th at 6pm, you, our customers will be able to download a free sampler block once per week.
We will leave each block pattern up for 3 weeks each and then they will be removed so you have to be sure to download the blocks before they disappear!
Remember Fridays at 6pm!

Setting instructions will be available on the website for the duration of the program.  If you would like to get started with picking your colors Moda tells us that two jellyrolls OR  two layer cakes OR one layer cake and one jellyroll will be enough to finish *most of the blocks! You may need a few odd bits, especially of background fabrics (depending on the fabric line you use) so be prepared with a few fat quarters of some supplements of whatever fabric line you choose. The setting fabric requirements are listed with the setting instructions if you want to go ahead and buy those so that you can coordinate your fabric choices as you  plan your project!
We hope that you will stayed tuned and participate in this fun project with us! We will have tips for you to help with your block construction along the way. This is a project that beginners can enjoy as well as the more experienced quilter. There will be a few copies of each week’s pattern at the shop for those who don’t internet yet!  We hope that you will share your progress with us via pictures on instagram (#modasamplershuffle #quilterscrossing) or on facebook or email!  We will all work on this together so we can show our progress, our different color ways etc...

In the end we will each have a unique and beautiful sampler that finishes at: 60” x 68”.
Check the website (www.quilterscrossingtx.com) for Sampler Shuffle downloads beginning November 6th!
Happy Quilting!
