These are the shop samples for some new classes:
Santa wallhanging with multiple techniques taught.
A cute multi-seasonal wallhanging or table runner with paper piecing is another class.
This rug is made in the Cotton Theory class made with a quilt as you go technique, it even makes use of those decorative machine stitches your machine has!
The Bowtucks purse class looking popular- who doesn't need a beautiful quilted purse or bag full of pockets?
Starbuilder is being offered again due to its popularity and the coming holiday season. Wouldn't it look great on your wall this Christmas?
One Block Wonder is also being offered again as well.
Dolores is also continuing to teach Fabric Bling if you are interested in some cutting edge art quilting techniques (this is a series of classes).
Signs ups are already being taken at the shop and the details are on the shop's website calendar if you are interested in signing up.
If you need a little more sewing time to get all these projects done, come join us on Fridays for free-sew in the classroom. We are having late nights twice a month on Fridays including this Friday October 1st.

Methinks it is a token of healthy and gentle characteristics, when women of high thoughts and accomplishments love to sew; especially as they are never more at home with their own hearts than while so occupied.

There's an App for that...

Has anyone seen the shirt that says "There's an app for that"? I know several people who sport this shirt.

But seriously, I might have just found an app worth downloading IF  one was to own an iphone or ipad. It is a quilters application and it is a quilt design/fabric audition tool found at  www.quiltersapp.com.
It costs 19.99 for your iphone or 29.99 for your ipad-- I know, I know... why can't this app be one of the hundred thousand apps that cost $0.99???
So has anyone tried this yet? Inquiring minds want to know if it is worth the purchase!

Pattern Review

Fresh Picked by Heather Bailey

As many of you know I am a blog reader, and have been a long time reader of Heather Bailey's blog so when we were first ordering things for the store I was keen to try some of her adorable patterns and get some of her fabrics as well. She has kind of a retro-meets-mod feel to her products with a healthy bit of whimsy and fun.  This pattern has been a big seller in the store since our first day.
These pattern pieces are clearly drawn and fit together nicely- a key feature in a dimensional product like these cute little stuffies- suitable to be used as pincushions or toys for kids outfitting their play kitchens! The written directions are understandable as well as being complemented nicely by well drawn illustrations.
She recommends using a light fusible interfacing on the cotton fabric pieces which helps your final product keep its shape. I made one sample following this direction and one without and was satisfied both ways. I think perhaps if I was making this for a child I would use the interfacing just to strengthen it a bit more.
Many of her patterns use felt to embellish them and we carry Heather Bailey's felt line in several colors to compliment the patterns. Her felt is higher quality than most and made of blends like wool, bamboo and rayon to add softness and even a little sheen.  It is much nicer than the typical felt you find at discount craft stores. We sell the felt in individual pieces in the shop. We also have several bolts of fabric from Ms. Bailey's line called Nicey Jane.
As far as I can see the only thing wrong with this pattern is that, it is unclear on the cover that you get four patterns in one package- a pear, apple, tomato and strawberry.
This is a quick to make pattern, uses very little fabric and would be an adorable gift!
Fairy Frost sale starts today!!

"Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about?  It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we know all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then would there?"
-Lucy Maud Montgomery
Anne of Green Gables
The store is closed today giving us a chance to work on some shop samples and plan our next projects at the shop.  I am locked up in my sewing room trying to focus on the work at hand, seen above in the photo. I really like this quilt because it challenged me and, though it is not perfect I learned from it, and that always makes me happy and gets me thinking about what will come next.
Do you ever have that happen to you? A project that makes you proud and therefore braver as you plan the next one?  It is so inspiring to me that there are always new things coming out to inspire me... new techniques, new fabrics, new tools, patterns, and threads to learn about.   It is fun to go into the shop each day and be continually inspired. Plus I have all our customers coming in! Bringing the enthusiasm of a new quilter or the skilled eye of an experienced quilter to bounce ideas off of.  Always learning new things is such a boost for creativity.  It makes me feel very grateful and very inspired.  What will be next? I wonder...
